"Tribute to Italian style"
An exhibition about Gianni Versace organized by Franco Jacassi
photo "Tribute to Italian style"is an exhibition that pays homage to Gianni Versace, one of the leading characters of Italian fashion, ten years after his death. The genius behind a style that has not only left a unique mark in the fashion world, but has influenced modern-time fashion in different environments and ways, his creations have reached even very special circles such as the stages of opera theaters.
"Versace has represented Italian style in the world" explains Franco Jacassi, the creator and promoter of the apparel and accessory collection hosted in the Vintage area. "In the Eighties and Nineties Italian fashion became even more popular, it strenghtened and consolidated its leading role and even managed to bypass venues like Paris, the undisputed leader until then. I had a great professional relationship with Mr. Versace. He used a lot of my fabrics for his collections. His creativity and unmistakeable style gave rise to beautiful garments that are still fashionable today".
That this exhibition is located in the Vintage area, where the history of fashion is told in an elegant, sophisticated way, is no mere chance - because vintage is synonymous with charme, style and timeless elegance.
"The exhibition aims at strenghtening the cultural profile of the market show" continues Mr. Jacassi. --> to be continued
“Take your hat off” to Lorenzo Borghi
The finest items created by the Milan-based artisan
on display at La Piazza dei Mercanti
photo Hats. Nobody could do without them in the past. Synonymous with elegance and class, their popularity faded for a while, but now they are back in style. Hand-made ones are extremely rare and have unique features. You can admire them at La Piazza dei Mercanti, where homage to these protagonists of world fashion is about to be paid. A portion of the Vintage area has been specially fitted with purple floor carpeting and orange walls to bear witness to a passion that has survived the centuries unscathed. Lorenzo Borghi, a Milan-based artisan who has been awarded the title of "Historical Workshop" by the Milan municipality in 2007, has been designing and manufacturing hand-made custom hats for fifty years. His designs can fit every occasion, be it formal or unformal. Fascinated by hats, Borghi started working with silk, taffeta, velvet, felt and straw when he was still very young. His life has been marked by unusual, famous episodes. One in particular stands out. During a stay in Italy in 2000, Queen Elizabeth II accepted only two gifts: a bottle of oil and a turquoise and apricot brimmed felt hat with hand-painted flowers Borghi had made for her. Some of the finest items designed since the Fifties are on display at La Piazza dei Mercanti: satin, velvet and straw toque hats from the Fifties and Sixties, extra wide-brimmed hats from the Seventies decorated with flowers and ribbons, up to present-day designs featuring the most unexpected colors and shapes. All of them by Lorenzo Borghi.
"Italia Usa: l’arte del fumetto"
An ageless passion, from Disney characters to Jacovitti
photo Comic books, prototypes, strips, statues from US Disney stores, color models and stage props. Clever Mickey Mouse is accompanied by his inseparable mate Minnie, moneygrabber Uncle Scrooge gives funny and unlucky Donald Duck a hard time. Plus the beloved puppies from "101 Dalmatians", cowboy Coccobill and many other characters loved by children and grown-ups alike.
Because love for comics is ageless. La Piazza dei Mercanti hosts an exhibition that features over 60 items from the private collection of Mr. Eugenio Falcioni, an art enthusiast who defines himself as "very eclectic".
"Comics have a clearly defined role to play in the art world, even if in Italy that role is poorly leveraged” explains Mr. Falcioni. “This market needs to be well analyzed and understood. There are true masterpieces in this sector. I became a collector about ten years ago, when my son was born. Today I own approximately 500 works, including comic books, sketches and color models".
Who is your favorite character?
"It used to be Donad Duck when I was a child, now I basically like them all. But I am still very fond of Uncle Scrooge and Tex Willer".
The exhibition pays homage to many Italian artists such as Giovan Battista Carpi (1927-1999), who was first published by the weekly magazine ‘Faville’ in 1945 and whose work for Disney led him to open the Disney School in 1988 and the Disney Academy in 1993. --> to be continued
