The “new proposals” for civil wedding ceremonies
At Juliet’s house, in ancient Pompei,
or at the famous "Round Terrace by the Sea" in Senigallia |
Getting married in Juliet’s house, where Shakespeare’s heroine used to live, or at the famous “Round Terrace by the Sea” in Senigallia, which inspired the song by Fred Bongusto, or choosing Pompei ruins as a location to enjoy the atmosphere of ancient Rome. It may sound kitsch to some, or extravagant to others, but several municipalities, maybe pushed by the current economic crisis, are offering their artistic heritage for civil wedding ceremonies.
The project is called "Sposami a Verona" (marry me in Verona) and it costs € 600 to get married in Juliet’s medieval house, but only if you are a resident in the city, otherwise the cost goes up to € 700, and it doubles for foreigners: € 800 is the rate for EU citizens and € 1,000 for immigrants. If you love the sea, the municipal administration of Senigallia offers the famous Round Terrace for your wedding. The ceremony can take place from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., and you have one hour to raise the glasses and toast with friends and relatives. Moving further south, in the Campania region, you can get married at the archaeological site of Pompei and eat the typical food of ancient Rome accompanied by the music of cittern and lyre. The most daring ones can also rent clothes and masks. In the latter case, the costs would soar, and this is why most of the wedding couples are foreign. A few miles away from Pompey there is Positano where you can get married on the beach by candlelight and then celebrate with a nice dive... |
